General Tso’s Chicken - 3 Pts/serving

General Tso’s Chicken

3 pts/ serving. Serves 4

1 lbs boneless skinless chicken breast, cut into cubes
2 tsp sesame oil, divided
2 tbsp corn starch
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 pinch (or more to taste) red pepper flakes
½ cup chicken broth
2 tbsp Polar hoisin sauce
3 tbsp Madhava Organic Agave Five
4 tbsp Kikkoman low sodium soy sauce
2 tbsp fresh squeezed orange juice
Vegetables, optional

  1. Season chicken as desired, i.e.. garlic powder, salt, pepper, etc, if a seasoning is used that increases the points, it will need to be added to the count.
  2. Heat 1 tsp sesame oil over medium heat.
  3. Cook chicken and desired vegetables until done and slightly browned, remove from pan and set aside
  4. Add 1 tsp sesame oil and sauté the garlic and red pepper flakes until fragrant.
  5. Add chicken broth and deglaze
  6. Add Hoisin sauce, agave, soy sauce and orange juice. Bring to a boil
  7. Stir in corn starch a little at a time to try to avoid clumps.
  8. Cook until thick
  9. Add back the chicken and veggies. Stir and heat through.

Notes:
  1. The points are based on the use of the name brand products mentioned and fresh squeezed orange juice. Not all hoisin sauce has the same point value. Polar was the lowest I could find at 1 pts/ tbsp.
  2. The original recipe called for honey, but I substituted the Madhava Organic Agave Five as it is significantly lower in points.
  3. You may be able to get away with less corn starch.
  4. You can lower the points and use cooking spray instead of the sesame oil. But I like the flavor.
